Jorge Marquez starts the conversation with a smile, and by introducing his caregiver: “This is my bride, Doris – we’ve only been married for 40 years…” He and Doris live in Puerto Rico.
But Jorge needs a liver transplant and has been at The Doorways since January 9th.
“It’s an 8 hour trip from Puerto Rico, and we just can’t go back and forth. I have to be close to the hospital where I’m going to have my transplant – if a liver becomes available.” Gian Franco, Jorge’s son, is 19 years old and works in the oil industry in Texas. He came to Richmond to help his mother take care of his dad.
After nearly four months, Jorge received his new liver, and a second chance at life.
“I want to be with my family. You make that possible.”
