Volunteer Manager

Established in 1984, The Doorways provides lodging and support to patients and families who travel to Richmond for critical medial needs. Those who enter our doors find a healing, emotionally supportive environment in a place where community generosity and compassionate care come together.

The Doorways is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as Volunteer Manager. This position will organize, coordinate, oversee, and evaluate the development and on-going implementation of a creative, innovative, and comprehensive volunteer program to enhance the mission and vision of The Doorways. Working alongside key staff members, this position is responsible for the recruitment, training, and on-going of support and recognition of individual and group volunteers. The position reports directly to the Director of Annual Giving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual plan for volunteer opportunities, recruitment, training, and engagement that provides meaningful and rewarding experiences for individual and group volunteers
  • Work with key staff to identify volunteer needs across the organization and ensure departments are set up for successful volunteer engagement
  • Manage the logistics of the organization’s volunteer-led meal service program with a goal on program expansion
  • Manage the organization’s food donation program, including key FeedMore relationships
  • Manage logistics for organization wide in-kind donations including identifying and promoting needs, inventorying, thanking donors, and working with volunteers to host collection drives
  • Assist Development team with special events as needed, manage volunteer recruitment, assignment, and management
  • Represent the organization at community fairs for the recruitment of volunteers
  • Plan yearly Volunteer Recognition event for all organization volunteers
  • Participate in Young Professionals Council management as needed
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records in Raiser’s Edge donor database
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to diverse groups of people
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at the same time
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with entire staff
  • Flexible schedule is required including frequent evening hours and some weekends
